It was deja vu at the sectional tennis tournament in Port Clinton Saturday.

The usual cast of characters, Oak Harbor's Ashley LaFountain and the Port Clinton doubles teams of Chlesea Beck and Aubrey Gillman and Samantha Griffin and Rachael Szabo, advanced to the district meet next week in Port Clinton.

Joining them for the first time is Oak Harbor singles player Julie Konieczny, who finished in fourth place.

Other area doubles teams advancing included Jaclynn Hipp and Olivia Kasten of Norwalk and their teammates, Allison Loden and Caleigh Ott.

At singles, Armelle DeRiso of St. Mary Central Catholic and Ophelia Whitmore of Bellevue, who finished third, also advanced.

LaFountain was her usual self, winning with ease as she defeated Konieczny in the semifinals 6-0, 6-0 and DeRiso in the finals 6-1, 6-0. In her five match victories, LaFountain lost just three games.

"It was nice to see Ashley get in there with a couple of wins," said Oak Harbor head coach Rick LaFountain. "I thought Armelle DeRiso played real well (in the finals)."

LaFountain, a sophomore, also won the sectional last year before advancing to the state meet.

Beck and Gillman defeated Hipp and Kasten of Norwalk 6-2, 6-2 in the finals to claim victory. Both seniors, Beck and Gillman have qualified for the state meet in each of their first three seasons.

"You reach a point in the season where you don't face weak opponents," said Port Clinton head coach Jim Greer. "Anybody that they face is going to be a good opponent. It's just about going out and executing now. You have to show up with your 'A' game."

Griffin and Szabo, who lost a hard-fought match to Hipp and Kasten in the semifinals 6-4, 4-6, 4-6, def.eated Loden and Ott of Norwalk 6-1, 6-0 to finish third.

In sectional play, the top-four placers advanced to districts. At next week's district meet, the top-three placers will advance to the state meet.
