Perkins girls finish first at NWOAC Championships

The Perkins girls continue to rule the pool.

With two first-place finishes from their star senior and two others from a relay and a sophomore, the Pirates piled up 415 points to win the Northwest Ohio Aquatic Conference Championships Saturday in Napoleon.

Senior Stephanie Gyurke, already committed to Ohio University, won the 200 IM in 2 minutes, 9.05 seconds, and was first in the 500 freestyle in 5:11.38.

Sophomore Jillian Chapman won the 50 freestyle in 24.98 seconds.

Toledo Notre Dame was second overall with 326 points; There were three other local teams swimming, with Port Clinton finishing fourth, Sandusky sixth, and Oak Harbor seventh in the girls standings.

Toledo St. John's Jesuit won the boys meet with 495 points, and Sandusky placed fifth, one spot ahead of Perkins. Port Clinton was seventh and Oak Harbor 12th.

The Perkins girls also won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:41.55.

Redskins state champion Mackenzie Stewart was first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.22. She won a state title in the 200IM last winter, but did not swim that event on Saturday.
