Margaretta scored one run in the first inning and a second in the fifth to put away St. Mary in the Sanduysky Bay Conference opener for both.
Ali James led off the first inning for Margaretta with a walk, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out RBI by Kendra Gast to score the first run of the game and put the Polar Bears up 1-0 over the Panthers. The game remained 1-0 until pinch runner Makenzie James scored off Ali James' single in the fifth.
Cortney Hansen was the winner at the mound, with two hits allowed, 13 strikeouts and one walk. Jorden Edinger took the loss for St. Mary, with two runs, one of which was earned, four strikeouts and two walks.
New London 21, Mapleton 0 (5 inn.)
In Firelands Conference play, New London blanked Mapleton 21-0 in five innings at home.
Olivia Held led the way for New London with a home run, three runs and three RBIs, while winning pitcher Cassidy Wise added two runs and two RBIs off a pair of hits and Haley Parrott contributed three runs off two hits.
Fostoria 9, Norwalk 5
At Fostoria, the hosts tallied runs early and came away with a 9-5 win over Norwalk in Northern Ohio League softball action.
Fostoria scored five runs in the opening two innings.
Kailee Flowers had two hits, including a double for Norwalk (6-4, 1-1). Beccah Roth slugged a double, while Amanda Kerby, Taylor Braden and Ashley Moyer each added one hit. Braden posted an RBI.
