Corner kicks: Parting shots (and goals) for 2011

AnthonyMoujaes • May 12, 2015 at 5:39 PM

Close the book on the 2011 season after the Oak Harbor girls and Norwalk boys lost in their district finals Saturday.

Clear Fork beat the Rockets 3-0, and Perrysburg beat the Truckers 2-0.

To date, just three teams (Norwalk 1997, Perkins 2008, Huron 2009) have qualified for the regional tournament in boys soccer. None have qualified in girls soccer.

The two area teams ranked in the state coahes poll, the Port Clinton boys and Norwalk girls, lost in the sectional finals as the Redskins were beaten 4-3 by Lexington in overtime. Oak Harbor ended the Truckers season, 2-0, on Tuesday.

Despite the change in division, Huron can't seem to catch a break against teams from the Mansfield area. Here's the Tigers recent history in the Division II and III boys sectional tournaments:

2011: Lost to Lexington 4-2

2010: Lost to Mansfield Christian 4-0

2009: Beat Mansfield St. Pete and Mansfield Christian

2008: Lost to Mansfield St. Pete 2-0

2007: Lost to Mansfield Christian 3-0

2006: Lost to Mansfield Christian (2-2) in penalty shootout

2005: Beat Mansfield St. Pete 3-1
