Wednesday's top stories:
Port Clinton 153, Perkins 167: Three players shot 38 or below for the Redskins (24 points), who share the lead in the Sandusky Bay Conference and have the best chance to win it outright. If they win their final two duals, both against Edison, they take the conference. Clyde, with 24 points and a maximum of 26, can only watch and wait.
Clyde 164, St. Mary CC 208: Garret Rupert led Clyde with a 36, while all four scorers finished with 44s or below in a big win over St. Mary CC. The Fliers and Panthers do it again today in Clyde.
Perkins 170, Huron 196: The Pirates wrapped up their penultimate dual match with a big victory, with one more to play, at Oak Harbor, before the SBC tournament. Given their 8-1 record, it is likely that the Pirates and Edison Chargers (9-1) will play for the title in the SBC tournament Saturday.
Edison 179, Oak Harbor 250: The Chargers are guaranteed at least a share of the SBC heading into Saturday’s conference tournament.
Norwalk 8, Sandusky 0: The Truckers broke open a 2-0 game at the half for six goals in a 13-minute span. Norwalk, now 7-0-2, continues to show that 2010’s sub-.500 record was an aberration.
Perkins boys 25, Huron girls 36: The Perkins boys cross country team powdered the field in Wednesday’s two-mile Erie County Championships at Mills Creek Golf Course in Sandusky. Michael Decker won the race in 10:51, while all his scoring teammates finished in the top eight. St. Mary CC’s Lindsay Kaatz defeated the rest of the field by 48 seconds, but the Huron girls finished consistently high (with four top-10 scorers) for the team victory.
