50 years ago, 1964: Sandusky County ranked 63rd in the United States in tomato acreage. During 1963 there were 1,293 acres of tomatoes for processing harvested in Sandusky County, It ranked 9th in the State of Ohio.
25 years ago, 1989: U.S. Rep. Paul Gilmore, R-Port Clinton, swung through Sandusky for one of the "town meetings" he promised he'd hold in each county in his district. Gilmore held court at Sandusky High School before heading to Bellevue for a similar event.
10 years ago, 2004: Five volunteers from the Firelands Chapter of the American Red Cross were assigned to the relief effort in Florida following the devastation from Hurricane Charley. The storm caused billions of dollars of damage and killed at least 16 people.
