50 years ago, 1964: Ohio's population reached an estimated 10,352,801 in Jan. 1964, a 6.7 percent increase from the 1960 census. The fastest growing city was Columbus with a 8.6 percent gain, and climbed to the second largest city. Cleveland's population dropped 1.4 percent.
25 years ago, 1989: Toledo Edison officials announced they would conduct an emergency planning test at the Davis-Besse nuclear plant that would include a 50-mile radius area, the largest ever tested for on Ohio nuclear plant.
10 years ago, 2004: With the city's pool closed and its future uncertain, city officials began looking into the option of rebuilding the beach at Lions Park. Funding of $165,000 would be used for a feasibility study and some of the restoration.
