A Bay View teen was arrested on several charges early Sunday after police caught him cruising down Tyler Street on a mini motorcycle.
The 16-year-old West Cherokee Trail boy was charged with unsafe vehicle, no motorcycle helmet, failure to display plates, no motorcycle license and a curfew violation.
Officers stopped the boy on Tyler Street near Hayes Avenue at about 1 a.m. Sunday after they noticed the motorcycle had no turn signals, brake or head lights, according to a Sandusky police report.
Police soon learned the same child recently had been stopped for riding a different mini bike on Columbus Avenue, and because they couldn't find identification numbers on the new bike, suspected it could be stolen, the report said.
The boy said he had been walking down Camp Street, saw the bike, and agreed to purchase it from an unidentified “older black male,” the report said.
Officers took the bike to the police station to investigate its purchase history.
The boy was taken to the Erie County Detention Home, as he didn't have a motorcycle license and the bike was unsafe to drive on roadways.
