50 years ago, 1964: Champion George Christopher of Skycroft, a full grown St. Bernard, won the Sandusky Kennel Club's "best in show" title at conclusion of the annual Dog Show and Obedience Trials at Erie County Conservation League, defeating five other variety group champions.
25 years ago, 1989: Global emissions of carbon dioxide - the main pollutant blamed for global warming - rose for the fourth consecutive year in 1987. Worldwide, emissions from the burning of oil, coal and gas increased to an all-time high of 5.65 billions tons.
10 years ago, 2004: Survey comments about the flashing traffic lights in downtown Sandusky were mixed. Many of those surveyed liked the four-way flashing lights. However, several wanted to change it back to regular traffic lights or stop signs because of the confusion the flashers caused.
