50 years ago, 1964: A home-made bomb, put together by a 12-year-old boy, exploded, blowing fragments of lead pipe over an area the length of a city block, injuring another youngster, and shattering a windshield of a truck parked a block away.
25 years ago, 1989: The long-awaited opening of the Lake Erie Factory Outlet Center was expected early next week, when between 15 and 20 stores in the complex planned to open their doors for business.
10 years ago, 2004: The Erie MetroPark's gamble to keep Osborn Park pool open appeared to be paying off. In 1988 there were 2,391 visitors to the pool in June. A year later 104 more people came through the gates. In November decreasing attendance and rising costs had threatened the closing of the pool.
