Police arrested an ex-con Friday evening after hearing a report of shots being fired.

The officers arrested Jeremy Prophet, 39, 2000 block of West Forest Dr., during the incident, which took place at the 2000 block of West Forest Dr. in Sandusky, within 1000 feet of Mills School.

And the report about the shots being fired turned out to be true.

The police said they recovered five shell casings in the area. They also found a bullet inside a home on the 2100 block of West Forest Drive, and found a bullet hole on the outside of the house.

Prophet was jailed for having an open container, resisting arrest, tampering with evidence, obstructing official business, have a weapon under disability (i.e., he wasn't supposed to have one because of his felony drug conviction), discharging a firearm in a school safety zone, discharging a firearm into a home, possession of cocaine and trafficking in drugs.

Police recovered a 9 mm caliber Ruger semiautomatic handgun, which they believe Prophet threw away after firing, in the back yard of a home on West Forest Drive. The gun had one live round in the chamber and two in the magazine. A plastic bag with suspected crack cocaine was recovered from Prophet's pants.

A police report said that the dangerous situation developed at 6:23 p.m. Friday. A local citizen stopped Perkins Police Department Officer Curran and said that a man on West Forest Drive was pointing a gun at people, Sandusky Office Natalie Ross wrote in her report.

When Ross arrived at the scene, she drew her gun and joined Curran in searching for the suspect.

Prophet came out of a back yard on West Forest Drive. His hands were visible and he was not holding a gun. As other officers began to arrive on the scene, Prophet was subdued and arrested.

Witnesses in the area told police that they heard five to six gunshots, and that they saw Prophet walking on West Forest Drive toward North Forest Drive while firing his gun.

Later in the evening, Amanda Clouse, 28, Huron, who identified herself as Prophet's girlfriend, was arrested in the same neighborhood for possession of dangerous drugs.
