Man seriously injured in motorcycle crash

A man was critically injured Saturday when his motorcycle struck a utility pole on Smokey Road near Ohio 61 in Berlin Township, Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers said.

Chad Scott Rhoades, 42, of Cuyahoga Falls, was driving a 2010 Harley-Davidson, troopers said

Rhoades sustained life-threatening injuries, troopers said. He was transported to St. Vincent's Medical Center by medical helicopter shortly after the 5 p.m. one-vehicle crash.

His Harley experienced severe damage when Rhoades drove off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole, ejecting him from the motorcycle.

Berlin Township fire department, the Erie County sheriff's office and Foster's Towing assisted at the scene.

Rhoades was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, troopers said.

The Sandusky post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Alcohol is an unknown factor at this time. No citations have been issued.
