A mother and her 4-year-old daughter are in good condition after they were struck by a car while crossing the street Friday night.

Sandusky police Officer Dan Lewis said he spoke with the mother Saturday evening, and she informed him they are bruised without any broken bones or serious injuries from the incident.

Lewis said the pair was crossing First Street near Ontario Street around 11 p.m.

The street was gridlocked following the Cedar Point fireworks, Lewis said. So when the mother tried to cross through a myriad of parked cars, a vehicle on the opposite side of the road came through and hit the duo.

The 4-year-old was being dragged around in a wagon, Lewis said, and she was knocked out of it.

The incident could have been far worse, as the driver reduced her speed from about 35 mph into single digits, he said.

Both appear to be healthy following Lewis' conversation with the mother. They were both taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center, where they stayed overnight.
