An Oak Harbor woman crashed into a utility pole Monday evening.

Melissa Hovetter, 38, of Oak Harbor had alcohol and drugs in her system when she drove off the road in Benton Twp., Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers said.

She was charged with OVI because of the prescription drugs she had taken, troopers said.

Around 10:30 p.m. Monday, Hovetter's 2001 Chevy Tahoe drove off North Lickert Hard Road near W. Toussaint North Road.

It was the only car involved in the crash, troopers said.

The utility pole needed to be replaced early Tuesday, leaving at least one residence without power for the night, troopers said.

Troopers said they believe Hovetter fell asleep at the wheel.

They said she was lethargic, whereas most people involved in a crash have a lot of adrenaline.

She was taken to Magruder Hospital for head injuries. Troopers were unable to give an update on her health as of Wednesday.
