Sandusky Schools is poised to hire its new treasurer as early as next week, according to an update from the district's superintendent.
During a closed-door meeting 7:30 a.m. July 8, school board members and district officials plan to interview two finalists for the job:
•Gina Deppert, Ashland Schools treasurer since 2008.
•Michael Verlingo, Shawnee Schools treasurer since 2012.
The gathering will be at the Brass Lantern at Sandusky High School, 2130 Hayes Ave., Sandusky.
They'll then likely announce the new hire within a day or so, superintendent Eugene Sanders said.
"We want to provide the individual with enough time to transition into the new job," he said.
The new treasurer will begin Aug. 1, and is expected to be paid a per-day rate throughout July until his or her contract officially begins.
Departing treasurer Kevin Robertson's final day with the district is July 31.
In March, he accepted a new job as treasurer of Bay Village Schools, near Cleveland.
Sandusky Schools officials teamed up with Finding Leaders, a Cleveland-area search firm, in April to broaden their search beyond the local area and eventually secure their three interviewees.
The decision extended the search process by about a month and cost the district about $7,500, Robertson said.
