Ten minutes 'til Wapner

50 years ago, 1964: An explosion aboard a barge firing the annual Macy's fireworks display lit up the sky as thousands viewed the Hudson River pageant. The New York crowd gasped at the spectacle unaware that the brightest flash was not in the script and had cost two men their lives.
25 years ago, 1989: Judge Joseph Wapner, who presided over "The People's Court" on television, was far better known in America than William Rehnquist, chief justice of the United States, a poll by The Washington Post showed. More then two-thirds of all Americans could not name one member of the Supreme Court, but 54 percent recognized Wapner.
10 years ago, 2004: At the movies: White Chicks, Chronicle of Riddick, Shrek 2, Troy, Mean Girls, Dodgeball, The Notebook, Two Brothers, Harry Potter: Prisoner of Azkaban, Stepford Wives and Day After Tomorrow.
