A Vermilion man was arrested Sunday on a felony charge for allegedly fracturing a man's nose Friday night at a Liberty Avenue bar.

Jack LaForce, 24, of the 5300 block of Portage Road, was charged with felonious assault and misdemeanor assault.

Vermilion police officers were called to Rudy's Bar & Grill Friday night just a few minutes before midnight.

There, they found a 22-year-old Vermilion man with a swollen nose, a large bump and laceration to his face and a fat lip, according to a police report.

The man told officers he was on the bar's back patio, chatting with his brother and a friend about basketball. LaForce soon approached the group, climbed on a picnic table and joined their conversation, the report said.

“(The man) stated that Jack eventually turned the conversation towards how great he was and how he was the best,” the report stated.

LaForce then allegedly punched and pushed the victim's brother to the ground, then turned his attention towards the victim.

LaForce punched his face, which knocked the victim to the floor, according to the report.

When the victim stood back up, LaForce allegedly leveled a second blow, causing him to fall again.

The alleged victim called police, but by that point, LaForce had already left the bar.

Surveillance later confirmed LaForce's involvement.

The following day, the man told police his nose was fractured from the alleged assault. He also required stitches, the report said.

LaForce turned himself in on the charge Sunday and later posted 10 percent of his $25,000 bond.

But on Monday, officers learned LaForce was out on bond from Cuyahoga County, and so took him back into custody. He is now being held at the Erie County jail.
