Man arrested after assaulting three people

A Sandusky man was arrested on multiple felony charges Monday morning for allegedly assaulting three people with a mallet-shaped auto tool.

Larry Windham, 57, of the 1800 block of Remington Ave., was charged with three counts of felonious assault.

Additionally, Windham's brother, Allen Scott, 45 of the 2000 block of Foxborough Circle, was charged with one count of misdemeanor assault for the incident.

Around 9:30 a.m. Monday, Windham spotted a man who owed Windham more than $300 for work he completed for the man on Remington Avenue, according to a Sandusky police report.

According to other witnesses who were with Windham's alleged victim, Windham approached the man to fight him, the report said.

Windham later said the group then approached him, so he grabbed a tire checker from his truck. The device was just over a foot long and rubber-coated with a lead core — an officer described it as a mallet-shaped object.

Windham told police he tripped, with some of the group members punching and kicking him while he was down. One man also restrained and choked Windham from behind, Windham said.

But another witness said he later observed Windham striking the man who allegedly choked him with the tire checker, the report said.

Windham was charged with three counts of felonious assault in total, because three group members — including the one who owed Windham money — were all struck with the tool, the report said.

Scott was charged with assault, because a witness saw him strike one other man.

Windham was arrested after the incident and taken to the Erie County jail.
