West end service garage opens

When you live on the shores of Lake Erie, it makes sense to open a service garage with a nautical theme.

Pat Shaugnessy is the proprietor of Maritime Muffler & Brake, a small service garage specializing in muffler and brake work. Shaugnessy, with 20 years experience in automotive, opened his own shop eight weeks ago after leaving an area franchise muffler shop. Thick nautical rope, also called line, decorates the clean lobby.

“I have a philosophy [of] treat people right, don't sell them things they don't need and they will come back,” Shaugnessy said. “We can do just about anything. I won't get into engines or transmission rebuilds.”

They are not looking to take advantage of anyone, knowing repeat customers and referrals will build a strong business.

Maritime Muffler most often will beat the price of any competitor on the work they do, including saving customers significant amounts of money on new tires, he said.

Kent McConolay, the technician at the shop, has 25 years of experience as a mechanic and can fix just about any mechanical problem with a vehicle.

“I will get it done the best possible way and make the customer happy,” McConolay said.

In an economy where people are still struggling, Shaugnessy will help prioritize for people the importance of repairs to keep their vehicle on the road.

Small service garages are as much Small Town USA as white picket fences, kids on bikes, and at Maritime Muffler, neighbors helping neighbors.
