50 years ago, 1964: Dean Martin was the guest star-host of "The Hollywood Palace" a television variety spectacular. On the bill were Britain's sensational singing group The Rolling Stones, the King Sisters, and Bertha the Elephant and her daughter Tina.
25 years ago, 1989: The death of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini opened the prospect of a long and perhaps tumultuous struggle for power in Iran, but seemed unlikely to threaten the revolutionary regime brought to power 10 years prior.
10 years ago, 2004: CIA Director George Tenet, battered by Sept. 11 fallout and criticisms of Iraq intelligence mistakes, said he would soon resign in a jarring announcement that threw open a key position at a critical time in the war against terrorism.
