Bellevue Community Days on the way

Caitlin Nearhood • Jun 4, 2014 at 8:50 AM

The 12th annual Bellevue Community Days Festival are scheduled for June 26-28 at Robert Peters Park in Bellevue.

The Bear Mountain Wildlife show will headline the festival, featuring five Syrian brown bears and their trainers dazzling the audience with two performances on Thursday, three times on Friday, and four times on Saturday.

This year's collectible badge depicts Richard Bell, a longtime community-oriented businessman who passed away three years ago, sitting in a compartment of Seneca Caverns, which was land that he owned at one time. The badges give free access to eating contests, discounts on food from vendors at the festival, and free access to other activities, like the kids craft activities by Big Smile Entertainment and are sold at the locations listed below. Other discounts with a badge at the festival will be announced soon.

Badges are $5.00 each or five for $20.00 and will be sold until five minutes before the fifth annual Badge Raffle drawing Saturday at 10 p.m.  One lucky winner will receive the top prize of $1,000, second place will receive $500, and third place will receive $250 in cash.

The Medallion Hunt will return for the fifth year in a row with the first clue being provided June 23. More clues will be released every day until June 28 in both the Bellevue Gazette and on WPCR Port Clinton radio.

As always, food, beverages, carnival rides, contests and live entertainment will be available each day.

The festival aims to be family oriented, according to Carol Marten, marketing director of the Bellevue Area Tourism and Visitors Bureau.

“Several families plan their reunions around the festival,” she said. “It draws people into Bellevue and gets the hype going for the Fourth of July.”

The festival’s attendance rises each year—on average, about 30,000 to 40,000 people visit every year. Organizers hope that 50,000 people attend this year.

“Some go for the rides and others come for supper, but it’s a very nice family event,” she said.

Proceeds from the festival benefit the Bellevue Recreation Department.

If anyone wants to be a Medallion Hunt sponsor, offer a discount, or be a festival sponsor, they should contact the Bellevue Recreation Department at 419-483-5555 or Carol Marten at 419-684-4030.
