50 years ago, 1964: Plans for a new $2 million industry in Huron Township were announced. The Glidden Co. asked the township zoning board for permission to build a chemical plant on land north of the DuPont plant on the Huron River.
25 years ago, 1989: The Veterans Affairs Department announced it would cut its maximum home loan interest rate from 10.5 percent to 10 percent, in the first change in the rate in more than half a year. The drop meant payments on a $75,000 home loan would be reduced by $335 a year.
10 years ago, 2004: Spending more time behind the wheel - and less time on two feet - was adding inches to waistlines and contributing to the nation's obesity epidemic, a new study concluded. The survey of 10,500 metro residents found that for every extra 30 minutes commuters drove each day, they had a 3 percent greater chance of being obese than peers who drove less.
