The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash where alcohol is believed to be a factor.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:04 am on SR 163 near milepost 16 Ottawa County. The vehicle, a 2004 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Spencer Farris, age 20, of Port Clinton, was traveling westbound on SR 163. Mr. Spencer traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a utility pole. The vehicle spun around 180 degrees and rolled onto the driver’s side coming to rest.

Mr. Farris sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Mid-County Joint Ambulance District. The vehicle sustained heavy damage and was towed from the scene by Bill’s towing of Oak Harbor. The utility pole sustained heavy damage which caused the power lines to hang in the roadway. Ohio Edison was called to repair the lines. SR 163 was shut down for several hours due to the power lines being in the roadway. ODOT was called out to establish a detour around the scene.

The post was assisted at the scene by Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, Portage Fire Department and Carroll Township Police.
