50 years ago, 1964: The FBI established that a heavily insured passenger shot the pilot of an airliner just before it crashed near Concord, Calif., killing all 44 passengers. A .357 Magnum with six spent cartridges was found in the wreckage along with a tape recording of the pilot's voice saying "My God, I've been shot."
25 years ago, 1989: Denny's would officially open for business in Huron at 2:30 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring city and township officials at the new restaurant on U.S. 6 in Huron Township. The building was at the site of the old L-K Restaurant.
10 years ago, 2004: Ruth Gale "Queen" and Don Conry "King" celebrated winning the Erie County Senior Pageant held at the Ohio Veterans Home. Gale resided in Parkvue Health Care Center and Conry at Portland House in Sandusky.
