Sandusky County Common Pleas Court Judge Brad Smith won re-election in the Republican primary Tuesday, turning aside a challenge from the candidate who had formerly held the post.
With all of the unofficial results in, Smith captured 2,823 votes compared to 1,980 votes for challenger and former judge Brad Culbert. There are no Democrats or independents seeking the post, so Tuesday’s results were decisive.
Smith’s office handles juvenile and probate court cases.
Smith, celebrating the victory at a party at the Fremont Country Club, said he was pleased with his victory.
“I’m proud of the fact that we take a real world approach with the kids and families that we deal with” he said.
He said he’s also pleased he demonstrated he could live within his budget.
“The fact that we are able to have good outcomes but also be good fiscal managers, people appreciate that” he said. “I don’t think the two are mutually exclusive”
Culbert said he’s “disappointed by the results, but I really appreciate all the support I got from my supporters.
“I’m looking forward to getting back to a normal life” he said.
