50 years ago, 1964: A tractor driven by an elderly Venice farmer was sheared in two by an automobile. The farmer was seriously injured, and his wife fainted when she saw it happen.
25 years ago, 1989: A quick-thinking Conrail conductor jumped off a locomotive and pulled two children to safety moments before they would have been crushed by the 200-ton diesel engine, New Jersey authorities said.
10 years ago, 2004: The Erie County shoreline is to wind as Saudi Arabia is to oil. The Ohio Department of Development, Office of Energy Efficiency was to release wind maps showing this area would be ideal to set up power plants that run on windmills.
