Brushing up on local school treasurer searches might foster feelings of déjá vu.
Norwalk Schools, the latest district to publicly release a list of its treasurer hopefuls, has attracted seven applicants — and all but one has applied for another school’s job, too.
This is the second time the district has posted the vacant position.
The first round of interviews conducted earlier this year came up short, prompting board members to completely restart the process, said Doug Crooks, North Point Educational Service Center superintendent.
The center’s representatives have been assisting Norwalk school board members with their search.
“We’re seeing the culmination of so many open treasurer positions in our area, and school districts keep looking for more candidates,” Norwalk Schools superintendent Dennis Doughty said. “We’re hoping to expand the pool”
Kenneth France, longtime Norwalk Schools treasurer, announced his retirement in December.
Betty Schwiefert, retired North Point Education Service Center treasurer, is filling in as interim treasurer on an as-needed basis at both Norwalk Schools and Huron Schools while the districts seek permanent replacements.
Schwiefert is earning $300 a day with Norwalk Schools.
Many districts in the region have conducted or are currently conducting treasurer searches this year. EHOVE Career Center and Vermilion Schools recently hired new treasurers, while Huron, Norwalk and Sandusky schools are hoping to hire their replacements before next school year.
A copy of each Norwalk Schools treasurer candidate’s résumé and application is posted below.
