UPDATED SATURDAY, 8:00 a.m. —
A motorcyclist seriously injured in a Thursday evening crash survived the night in a Toledo hospital.
As of Friday, Bruce Parker, 24, 1200 block Susan Lane, was in critical but stable condition at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center’s intensive care unit, deputies said. At about 6:30 p.m., Parker lost control of his Suzuki bike in the 11000 block of River Road and slid off the pavement.
Parker laid down the bike and traveled about 80 feet before sliding head-on into a utility pole. Though he was wearing a helmet, he still sustained severe injuries and was flown by medical helicopter to the Toledo hospital. Deputies said it appeared Parker failed to negotiate a turn in the road while traveling an estimated 70 mph in a 55 mph zone, according to the crash report. Sgt. Daniel Kautz said Parker was scheduled for surgery on Friday.
Further details of his condition were unavailable.

A Sandusky man was flown by medical helicopter to a Toledo hospital Thursday evening after he wrecked his motorcycle on River Road, according to an Erie County deputy’s report.
Bruce Parker, 24, of the 1200 block of Susan Lane, was driving a 1995 Suzuki south on River Road when at about 6:30 p.m. he lost control of the motorcycle and went off the side of the road, the report said.
Parker laid down the motorcycle, but he then slid about 80 feet before his head struck a utility pole. He was wearing a helmet, but still suffered severe injuries. The motorcycle continued for another 150 feet before coming to rest, according to the report.
Parker was flown by medical helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, where late Thursday he was listed in critical condition, a hospital spokesman said.
The crash happened in the 11000 block of River Road. It appears Parker failed to negotiate a turn in the road, according to the deputy’s report, which also lists unsafe speed as a factor. The motorcycle was traveling an estimated 70 mph in a 55 mph zone.
Parker was cited for failure to control.
