Sandusky Schools is fishing for a treasurer, but the pool of applicants has almost dried up.
A monthlong local search headed by school board members and district officials turned up only six applicants, half without a school treasurer’s license, according to documents the Register obtained through a public records request.
Sandusky Schools is now teaming up with Finding Leaders, a Cleveland-area search firm, in hopes of hooking some additional candidates.
“We wanted to expand this and take on a more regional approach,” Sandusky school board president Tom Patterson said.
Finding Leaders has advertised the Sandusky Schools treasurer position throughout Ohio and all its adjacent states, owner Paul Pendleton said.
The hire will cost the district $7,500, departing treasurer Kevin Robertson said. It will also delay the initial goal to hire Robertson’s replacement by the end of May.
The new plan is to accept applications until May 30 and conduct interviews throughout June, with an anticipated hire in the first week of July. The selected person would transition into the new job in July and officially start Aug. 1.
Robertson, Sandusky Schools treasurer since 2008, announced his departure in March to become treasurer of Bay Village Schools, near Cleveland.
Many districts in the region have conducted or are currently conducting treasurer searches this year. EHOVE Career Center and Vermilion Schools recently hired new treasurers, while Huron, Norwalk and Sandusky schools are hoping to hire their replacements before next school year.
