The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a man who was hit by a train. Daniel Vincent Haley, 29, 2000 block of S. Crawford Road, Oak Harbor, died in the incident. In a news release, the sheriff’s office said it received a call at 6:13 a.m. Saturday from a train crew of a Norfolk and Southern train southbound out of Oak Harbor.

The crew said the train had struck a person on the railroad tracks.

The train had just crossed over the Portage River heading west and was about 50 yards south of the river when the person was struck.

Ottawa County Sheriff Steve Levorchick said the sheriff’s office is investigating. It’s not known why Haley was on the tracks, he said.

Haley’s body has been sent to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy, Levorchick said.
