Run & Ride is fun for all

Cedar Point’s philosophy of family fun now incorporates the first-ever Cedar Point Run & Ride event.

On the last weekend in June, the amusement park will host the Cedar Point Half-Marathon, the Millennium Force 5K and Snoopy’s One-Mile Fun Run.

“It’s going to be a fun event. It’s something families can take part in, and families are what Cedar Point is known for. Now family fun can mean exercising together, getting into shape together and running in races,” park spokesman Bryan Edwards said.

“I think we are seeing running events becoming more popular. The Rev3 event shows that” he said.

The half-marathon is a 13.1-mile course that takes runners out of the park, down the causeway and into Sandusky before turning around and running back to the park. This race is at 6:45 a.m. June 29.

The registration fee for the halfmarathon includes a finisher medal, a long-sleeve T-shirt and admission into Cedar Point on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday, June 27-29.

The 5K takes place inside the park, with participants running by the historic midways and iconic rides, including Millennium Force.

For every registration into the 5K, $5 goes to the Chris Smith Memorial Fund, which benefits the high school athletic booster clubs of Sandusky, Perkins and Sandusky Central Catholic schools.

Snoopy’s one-mile fun run will start by GateKeeper and around Planet Snoopy and Kiddy Kingdom.

Both of these events begin at 7:30 a.m. June 28.

The registration fee for both races includes a commemorative bib number, short-sleeve T-shirt and discount rates on admission tickets to Cedar Point.

Registration began Wednesday, and already organizers are seeing a good response, Edwards said.
