50 years ago, 1964: An uncontested Mexican divorce appeared to have cleared the way for Elizabeth Taylor to marry Richard Burton. A Mexican judge granted the film actress her freedom from singer Eddie Fisher because Fisher did not contest the divorce suit.
25 years ago, 1989: Kathy Dreschel Lilji was named assistant to the city editor for features at the Sandusky Register. Lilje would edit the Kaleidoscope section of the paper as well as be responsible for social news, club news, art events and feature stories.
10 years ago, 2004: Martha Stewart was convicted of obstructing justice and lying to the government about why she unloaded her Imclone stock just before the price plummeted - a verdict that could send her to prison and cripple the homemaking empire built around her vision of gracious living.
