Officials have identified the body of a man found inside a burning car on Jacobs Road late Feb. 27.

The death of David Collins, 26, of Milan Avenue in Norwalk, was ruled a suicide earlier this week, Huron County Chief Deputy Ted Patrick said.

Collins’s identity was revealed through dental records, Patrick said.

At about 9 p.m. Feb. 27, officials received two emergency calls about the car fire. When firefighters and investigators arrived at the scene, they found a body in the backseat, Patrick previously said.

Patrick said some evidence found at the scene, coupled with information they received from family members, aligned with the suicide ruling.

Investigators are still awaiting toxicology reports and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation reports.

Officials have yet to determine how the fire began, Patrick said.
