Ailing harbors to benefit from lake dredging

Associated Press • Mar 6, 2014 at 8:30 PM

Michigan U.S. Sens. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow announced the funding Wednesday. They and other members of the U.S. Senate’s Great Lakes Task Force sent a letter to the Corps in February asking that more harbor maintenance funds be devoted to the eight-state region.

Levin said the money would help provide access to harbors that have become so shallow they’re increasingly unusable.

Michigan harbors scheduled for dredging include the Black River at Port Huron, Cheboygan, Grand Haven, Leland, Menominee, Monroe, Saginaw River and St. Joseph.
