Erie MetroParks Organization of the Year

Erie MetroParks was applauded for its efforts in: conservation — managing more than 3,000 acres of parklands at 13 different parks throughout Erie County; Education — Providing more than 450 programs per year, of which 90 percent are free; and recreation — the sport tournaments Erie MetroParks are bringing to the area provide a conservative estimate of $3 million to the Erie County economy.

The Park District was also given credit for meeting rooms, overnight facilities, community and school programs and special events.

During his speech, Daniel Frederick, former president of the Milan Chamber of Commerce said, “It is the opinion of the Chamber of Commerce that the recent transition in MetroParks leadership helped make this settlement possible, (referring to the greenway litigation).

This new leadership appears to embrace new ideas, better communication efforts and a desire to rebuild relationships. We appreciate Erie MetroParks’ recommitment to their role as a leader in responsible land stewardship and being sensible caretaker of public trust.”
