Girls tell police man offered gifts for sex

Three girls informed police a Sandusky man propositioned them for sex in exchange for gifts last summer, and investigators now suspect he may have raped one of them, police said.

The girls, each between the ages of 13 and 16, met with social workers this week to discuss the allegations, Sandusky police Detective Ken Nixon said.

They said a 30-year-old Sandusky man, who is a friend of their families, would treat them to bowling or other activities and expect sexual favors in return, Nixon said. When the parents of the girls recently learned of the allegations, they questioned the teens and reported it to police.

Officers took note of the complaint because the same man has been previously accused of taking underage girls to hotel rooms and getting them drunk, Nixon said. The man was never charged in past cases.

Police suspect some of the victims have not come forward out of fear of retaliation. The man also tried to open a teen club in Sandusky in recent years, Nixon said.
