Sandusky police charged Lee Gustafson Jr., 28, 300 block S. Lyme St., with cocaine possession, theft and falsification.

The head-scratching started just before 3 p.m. Sunday, when Gustafson reported being robbed at gunpoint while working as a manager at the Budget Host Inn Hotel in the 2000 block of Cleveland Road, according to a Sandusky police report.

Gustafson then claimed he was forced to drive his assailants to Barnes Nursery in Huron Township, where the suspects got into another vehicle and drove off. An officer determined Gustafson’s story didn’t add up, so he brought him to the police station.

There, an officer searched him and found a small amount of cocaine, according to a related police report.

Gustafson later admitted to making the story up and claimed he was not robbed at gunpoint. He also said he used one of the hotel’s hot tub rooms when he was supposed to be working and didn’t have the owner’s permission.
