50 years ago, 1964: Sanduskian Sam Stein, retired president of the National Association of Hotel and Restaurant Meat Purveyors was elected Chairman of the Board by members at the annual meeting in Miami Beach.
25 years ago, 1989: U.S. unemployment dropped to a 14-year low of 5.3 percent the Labor Department said. The jobless rated dipped 0.1 percent in Dec. 1988 and was the lowest since a 5.1 percent rate in May of 974.
10 years ago, 2004: A Cleveland woman suing to block payment of a $162 million lottery prize to the validated winner all but admitted she made up the story she bought then dropped and lost the ticket. "I wanted to win so bad for my kids and family." She said while apologizing.
