Gary L. McKisic was driving his green 2007 Ford Focus west on Kneisel Road at 12:36 p.m. when he went off the right side of the road, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
McKisic overcorrected, going off the left side of the road where he hit a large rock and two trees.
The collision collapsed the driver’s side of the vehicle, pinning McKisic in the vehicle, said Trooper Cory Harris of the Sandusky post.
McKisic was conscious and making noise but not able to talk, Harris said. First responders had to cut him out of his car by mechanical means. He was the only person in the Focus.
It was apparent McKisic had serious injuries, including facial and leg injuries, Harris said. A medical helicopter landed on Kneisel Road and took him to Cleveland Metro Hospital.
Troopers still have to talk to McKisic. It is unknown what caused him to go off the road, Harris said. There was no ice or snow on the straight-away where the crash occurred, and troopers did not find any evidence of alcohol.
The crash remains under investigation.
No citations have been issued.
