It’s official: Kamm wins board seat

Yes she Kamm.

Candidate Holly Kamm won the third contested seat in the Edison school board race, after elections officials from Erie and Huron counties certified voting results this week.

Kamm won the four-year seat as a write-in candidate. She also bested fellow write-in challenger Greg Cumston.

Incumbents James Mark Suhanic and Matt McClester won the other two spots. Four candidates ran in the race.

Officials took about two weeks after the election to review and count ballots that had the Kamm or Cumston name written on them. Voters had to write their chosen candidate’s name on the ballot.

Kamm and Cumston didn’t submit the necessary candidate petitions, complete with voter signatures, by early August.

Their names, then, weren’t included on the ballot. They both registered later with the Erie County Board of Elections, becoming official write-in candidates after the deadline elapsed.

Kamm failed to return several calls seeking comment.

In a past article, she said she ran as a write-in after someone she respected dropped out of the race.

The Register previously reported how the winner of this race would become Erie County’s first write-in victor, but officials had provided the Register with inaccurate information.
