50 years ago, 1963: The U.S. State Department affirmed Erie County was on the list of areas declared off-limits to Soviet and satellite travelers. The law forbid certain diplomats to travel in areas within 15 miles of the Canadian border.
25 years ago, 1988: Rats were running amok in a deserted courthouse in Florida where bales of marijuana that had washed up on Florida shores were being stored. The rodents ripped into and partially ate at least three bales of "evidence."
10 years ago, 2003: Thrilled about the city's new skate park, boarders promised to stay out of downtown. Over 25 boarders gathered for the ribbon-cutting on their new $80,000 skate park on Meigs Street.
