50 years ago, 1963: Mrs. Robert Sijan of Huron was the first winner of the local Seat Belt Slogan contest. She won a set of two seat belts from the Sandusky Safety Council and $5 towards having them installed.
25 years ago, 1988: The Pentagon awarded two $3 million contracts for the design of a mini-'Star Wars" defense against shorter range missiles in the western Pacific. The design would defend against missiles with ranges up to 300 miles.
10 years ago, 2003: After only one month since the rollout of retooled $20 bills meant to thwart counterfeiters, knockoffs of the colorized currency were already starting to circulate. Nearly 200 versions of the new bill had surfaced after only a month on the market.
