The woman also said her license plates were never returned to her after the repossession, according to a Sandusky police report.
The Reese Street resident was recently told by the repo company that her 2001 Ford Expedition was being held in an Akron impound lot, but on Wednesday she saw a man known as “Joe Chill” driving the vehicle in Sandusky, the report said. The woman’s friend also saw the man driving it on Milan Road later that day and confronted him about “joy riding,” the report said.
The man then immediately fled the area in the SUV, the report said.
When officers later contacted “Joe,” he was evasive and refused to confirm or deny the vehicle’s whereabouts, the report said.
He told officers they’d need to contact his boss, and also said he didn’t believe the officer was a legitimate law enforcement official, the report said.
Officers are awaiting information from the repo company to determine if they’ll pursue theft charges, the report said.
