Monroeville Schools will soon see a new face on its school board, following an election-night upset that bumped a board veteran from his seat.
Brian Watt, the school’s junior high athletic director for six years and a former Army National Guardsman, took home more votes than any other candidate in the race.
Watt’s victory unseated Steve Reer, a longtime board member and community member.

Voters still chose to re-elect incumbents Mike Helmstetter and Sandra Lonz, giving them nearly identical vote tallies of 492 and 488, respectively.
“A fresh set of eyes and ears is a good thing,” Watt said prior to the election.
Voters evidently agreed.
Watt touted community involvement as a key factor in a school’s success.
Likely stemming from his years of athletics experience in Monroeville, Watt encouraged parents to get more involved in the district and encouraged more fans to show their support at sporting events.
