50 years ago, 1963: A hungry burglar hit a Celeryville farmer's barn and took 15 to 20 pounds of potatoes and a candy machine. They also helped themselves to 20 to 50 gallons of gas from truck on the farm.
25 years ago, 1988: At 1 a.m. the new $4.7 million digital switching station was to take over electronic duties for Ohio Bell in Sandusky, replacing the 1957 mechanical switcher that physically connected telephone callers with each other.
10 years ago, 2003: The most powerful geomagnetic storm possible walloped the Earth, knocking out some airline communications, but causing no large power outages or other major problems. The storm was the most disruptive to hit Earth since 1989.
