Scott Alexander, 50, of the 600 block of South Shore Court, was charged with two weapons-related charges — felonious attempting to remove a weapon while stopped by law enforcement and failure to promptly inform law enforcement of a weapon.

He was also charged with using weapons while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.

A large group of children were gathered outside when Vermilion police arrived at South Shore Court for a harassment complaint at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, the report said.

An 11-year-old boy who was crying said Alexander made fun of his dead cat and called him a baby, the report said.

Well after officers began investigating the complaint, Alexander told them he was armed, the report said.

Officers ordered him to put his hands over his head, telling him they would retrieve his holstered pistol. Alexander immediately moved his hand to draw the weapon, nearly reaching it before officers ordered his hands up yet again, the report said.

Officers confiscated the gun and arrested him. Alexander blamed the neighbor kids for the incident, the report said.

He was taken to the Lorain County jail and held until his court appearance Tuesday.
