50 years ago, 1963: The Brockling Concrete Corp. of Cleveland was to begin quarry operations on Kelleys Island in the spring of 1964. The operation would eventually be a half-million dollar venture. The village council approved the request to re-zone 157 acres of land to industrial.
25 years ago, 1988: A Milwaukee maintenance worker, perched in a false ceiling of a police station locker room to spy on a female officer, crashed into the room as the ceiling gave way. The woman had just showered and dressed when she was startled by the loud crash.
10 years ago, 2003: An 18-year-old who squeezed himself into a 4-foot by 2-foot safe at a Kmart was rescued by firefighters and a locksmith. The teenager emerged short of breath and sweaty, but otherwise unharmed after more than 10 minutes in the safe.
