50 years ago, 1963: Sue Griffing got her commercial pilot license in 1943. She preferred flying to driving a car. She and her husband Harry had been flying for many years and owned the airport on Cleveland Road. Of the 27 planes at the airport, they owned eight.
25 years ago, 1988: The odds were high a strong earthquake would shake the United States east of the Rockies by the year 2010, a scientist warned, emphasizing that the region should take steps to avoid potential destruction.
10 years ago, 2003: Despite Ohio's new prescription program, local seniors still found monthly Windsor trips eased the pain in their pocketbooks. Every month, the senior center took a bus full of Erie County residents to Canada to buy prescription drugs.
