50 years ago, 1963: A carnival elephant bolted from its act, trampled through a crowded department store, kicked an elderly man, and led police and hundreds of citizens on a two-mile chase until it was brought down.

25 years ago, 1988: No runs, no hits, no errors, and nobody came out ahead in the nationally televised vice presidential debate between Lloyd Bentsen and Dan Quayle that forced the rescheduling of a major league baseball playoff game.

10 years ago, 2003: Cedar Point did away with its senior single-day admission tickets, those 60 and older would have to now pay regular prices. The park eliminated the discounted senior citizens season passes several weeks prior.
