While Perkins officers arrested the suspects, Sandusky officers are investigating the shooting because it happened at Fallen Timber Drive, on the city-township border.

Anthony Taylor, 26, of the 600 block of Camp St., was cited for driving under suspension, while Corey Vargas, 24, of the 1600 block of McDonough St., was charged with drug possession and disorderly conduct intoxicated. Michelle Ayers, 27, of the 2200 block of Campbell St., was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, disorderly conduct and marijuana possession.

Additional charges could follow, police said.

Perkins police Officer Tim Alexander was patrolling East Perkins Avenue when at about 3:15 a.m., near Remington Avenue, he heard two gunshots, according to his report.

“The shots were very loud and appeared someone was shooting a weapon right next to my cruiser,” Alexander’s report stated. He looked around and initially saw nothing, but then spotted a silver Mercy Sable turning onto Remington Avenue at a high rate of speed. At that point he also heard a third gunshot. He pulled the vehicle over near Rhode Street, but all three occupants said they heard no gunshots.

Taylor, the driver, had a suspended driver’s license, so Alexander ordered him out of the car. Another Perkins officer showed up and had the passengers — Ayers and Vargas — exit the car, the report said.

In the end, Taylor had a knife in his front pocket and Vargas had a bottle containing a Vicodin pill, the report said. In the vehicle’s glovebox, however, police found a loaded 9mm handgun, knives in a backpack, marijuana under the passenger seat, a baton and a bottle of pepper spray.

Sandusky police then went to the 2100 block of Fallen Timber Drive, where they found a spent 9mm casing, Sandusky police Lt. Danny Lewis said.

Police said additional charges are likely as the investigation evolves.
